skills for parents to communicate with their teens about sexual education. HIV 101: HIV and STDs prevention classes covering HIV and STD modes
of transmission, risk behaviors and the Voices/Voces curriculum for
negotiation skills. OutreachStreet Outreach: Educational efforts in high risk neighborhoods
via door to door, health fairs and community events. Media:
Partnership with a local radio station to host a monthly radio show on HIV
prevention. Partnership with a local newspaper to publish an article on HIV
and sexual education. Volunteers“Mi Vecino y Yo” Volunteer program :
Train individuals to actively
participate in the fight against AIDS. Consumer Leadership DevelopmentSpeakers Bureau: Leadership development focusing on prevention
efforts in the Hispanic community includes testimonials and HIV education.

to medical care, medication and other support services. Support Group: “Segunda Jornada” monthly support meetings for HIV
positive individuals. Peer support network: Network supported by and for HIV individuals
with HIV offering emotional support.
AdvocacyNC Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS: Hispanic representation to
address the needs for prevention and care in the Hispanic community
throughout Mecklenburg County. Community Planning Group: Hispanic representation to survey, assess
and report underserved needs for the Hispanic population in a 13 county
region. HIV/STDs Hispanic Task Force: A group of community partners
collaborating to develop initiatives to serve the Hispanic Community in the
Charlotte Mecklenburg area. Latin American Council of Charlotte: Representation of Metrolina AIDS
Project in a local network of non-profits serving the Hispanic community in
the Charlotte Mecklenburg area.
